At our last Arrow service, Pastor Benjamin preached a powerful message. He expounded on the Bible story of Gideon (Judges 6:11-40) that I believe has already sparked off the courses of many of our God-given destinies.  The nuggets of truth and wisdom from this story will surely embolden and ignite your faith!

We start by seeing Gideon cowering from fear of the Midianites, hiding away and beating wheat at a wine-press in secret – a back-breaking work as wheat was meant to be threshed by using a winnowing fork and chaffing them up in the wind. Just then, the angel of the Lord who was already there appeared to him and said to Gideon, “The Lord is with you, you mighty man of valor”. (Judges 6:12) However in the natural, Gideon was anything but.  Likewise, some of us may feel fearful and are afraid to face our enemies, but even in our fears, the Lord is already there. And because the Lord is with us, He sees us strong and mighty, and that is our reality. It is the Lord’s presence with us that unleashes the potential and strength already residing within.

The story of Gideon really encourages me as I believe he is someone many of us can relate to. Despite our doubts and excuses, the Lord still says to us, “Go in this might of yours… Have I not sent you?” (v14), and “Surely I will be with you” (v16). We reason by looking at our outward circumstances, but Daddy God wants to point us back to what is inside us – to Who is inside us. He always shifts our focus back to who He has called us to be, to what He has equipped us with and to the very truth that He is with us – that He will never leave us nor forsake us. We may see ourselves as the least, the weakest, or not from the best family background (v15), but it is God’s favour upon us that turns our disqualifications into qualifications for His blessings; our problems into platforms for His glory.

Pastor Benjamin also shared that

Were you at The Zone on 30 October 2010? Well, The Zone’s very own Spark Unplugged team put up its own acoustic set during the pre-service segment for our DARE, Arrow and GenRev services. This was the first time Spark Unplugged took the stage, reinterpreting worship favourites like Run and Sunday school classics like God Answers Prayer to cheers from the crowd!

If you’re wondering what the newly-formed Spark Unplugged is all about, it’s a team of youths who are interested in music — be it in the areas of songwriting, singing or playing instruments — and want to develop these giftings by the grace of God. If you’re interested to serve in Spark Unplugged, drop us a comment here or email jonah.sng@gmail.com

But if you’re keen to serve in The Zone and are not quite sure where else you could, why not consider Spark Collective? Spark Collective are the people who put up the stage and foyer décor, and dream up ideas for games, activities and performances for every Zone service! Check out the photos below for a glimpse of the awesome work the Spark Collective put up on 30 October! Last Saturday, Pastor Joe preached a powerful sermon about BELIEVING, SPEAKING and walking by FAITH, not by sight.

What really struck me was when Pastor Joe shared about how sometimes we can’t see how real the promises of God are in our lives, even though the promises are AS REAL AS CAN BE! He gave the example of him walking along the stage with his eyes open. Obviously, he could see where he was walking. He brought his point across when he closed his eyes and walking even as he could not see where he was going. Despite being unable to see, was the stage still there and was he still walking on the stage?
