Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs
Text by Rachel Leong
Ice Age returns with a third installment and they do it with more laughs and even more impressive animation. This sequel sees our inter-species herd of prehistory heroes stumbling upon a whole new underground world of dinosaurs (we’re gonna conveniently ignore the implausibility of that since it’s a an animated movie) and needless to say, adventure ensues. The introduction of a smart-mouthed, swashbuckling weasel, Bucky, was a refreshing addition to the cast. Plus, we love his English accent.
Perhaps the only part of the movie that was a little overdone is Scrat – the acorn-chasing saber-toothed squirrel who, as in the other two prequels, makes an appearance. This time, he’s got a female counterpart (Scratte) that he’s fallen in love with, so it’s double the dose of crazy here. It’s all just too much and a little distracting.
Still, the movie is fast-paced, funny and at times poignant, and it’s got all the ingredients to keep its audience, both young, old and even non-cartoon fans, glued to the screen. Good stuff!
