2010 is finally here. Not only is it a new year, it’s a new DECADE!! So it was especially meaningful that we kick started the new year with an anointing service. Like Pastor Benjamin said, what we want is a FRESH anointing. So when the leaders laid hands and anointed each of us, we know that this year is just going to be different. We have been sent forth into the new year with the consciousness of His anointing upon us; this is the year that we shall REST and REIGN!
Pastor Benjamin preached a powerful sermon from the life of David, but he first started off with how God led Samuel to Jesse’s house to look for a king. Pastor shared that God told Samuel to go and only then, He would reveal who He had chosen as king over Israel.
For us, this means that we just need to follow as God leads us. Pastor shared that we are like the young ox yoked to the older, more experienced ox that typifies Jesus. When the Bible says to take on Jesus yoke because it is easy and light, it means that all we have to do is follow the Holy-Spirit’s leading.
Rest is spirit-directed activity. The Holy Spirit Himself will show us what to study, when to focus on our CCAs, when to focus on ministry, even what to wear and what time to sleep!
Can you even begin to imagine how restful 2010 will be when we start to be yoked to Jesus, to flow with Him? And if our lives are entirely in Jesus’ control, how can we not reign in life!!!
Then, Pastor Benjamin also spoke of how David was forgotten by the “in” crowd. (1 Sam 16:11) David was forgotten by man (eve his own father!), but God never forsook him. God chose David (which means ‘beloved’). Beloved, do you know this? That Jesus, the Chosen One, chose you! Yes, YOU! You were handpicked for His love, and chosen as a king. And it doesn’t stop here.
In 1 Sam 16:13, it says
Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel arose and went to Ramah.
You know what this means? The ram’s horn indicates a male sheep’s death— Jesus’ death, that with His death, we are openly anointed. And just like in the scriptures, from the day of anointing forward, the Spirit of the Lord came upon David. So it is for us, beloved! From the day of anointing on 2 January 2010’s Arrow service, the Spirit of the Lord has come upon you, and continues to be upon you from that day forward.
Beloved, God has anointed you, simply because He honors you. And with His anointing, ONLY goodness and kindness pursues you. (Psalm 23:5) How then beloved, is it possible that you not reign in life when everything running after you is goodness and kindness? Truly, 2010 is a year of resting and reigning. Believe big and lean on Jesus as He brings you every victory in your life this year!
