Testimony: Conquering Himalayas With Jesus!

Submitted by Tan Jen Jue, Alex (Chai Chee CG)

My company had undergone a series of restructuring and I felt that it was time for me to move on after being there for nearly three years. After leaving my company, I decided to make a trip to the Himalayas. The thought of experiencing God amid the mountains excited me.

Upon my arrival at the Mount Everest area I was confronted with posters of missing trekkers who veered off trail and were not yet found. I climbed the mountain with a Japanese trekker for the first 10 days. I had no company for the following climb to the next village so I tried to hire a guide but none was available. I asked the Lord if I should continue or head back and the Lord said, “Go, and know that I am with you”.

Knowing that it would be a short trek to the next village, I only brought a half-filled water bottle and a bar of chocolate. Nearing the top of a hill, I could see that there was a village with houses with blue and orange roofs midway up the next hill, so I assumed that that was the village I was supposed to head towards. From where I was, I descended quickly and climbed up to where the village was. To my horror, there were only ruins and rocks. Till this day I could not explain how come I saw those houses on the hill.

It was at that moment that I panicked and cried out to God. To make things worse, a hailstorm broke. I had finished all my water and was dehydrated from my climb. I did not even have enough saliva to swallow the bar of chocolate so I only ate half of it. I began to descend from the hill back to where I came from, and made a last effort to find the trail. Halfway up the hill, I could see trekkers walking by at the top and I shouted for help with all my might. Alas, they did not hear me, but throughout all this, I knew that God was with me. I kept repeating to myself that to the righteous is the deliverance of death.

I did not know how I got the strength to get back on the trail but I did. Along the way up the hill, I nearly fell at some sections that were particularly steep. I knew God was with me at every step of the way. When I finally reached the trail, I collapsed and waited for help. Then, a Nepali guide and his two Danish friends saw me. They gave me water and, as they were heading the same way as me, graciously allowed me to follow them for the rest of my trip. This trip is so full of God’s favour! I realised that other than the four hours that I was lost, I was not trekking alone during my trip.

God’s goodness does not end here. When I returned, I had expected my final paycheck to be around $1,000 as I did not complete my last month at work, but my ex-company paid me $2,500! I had no idea where the extra money came from but I did not care. I know that God will protect and provide for me just because He loves me!
